CountHigh-newspaper-mailbox.jpgYou see these mailboxes? They contain something. A newspaper. Which newspaper? Well, this one. And why is any of this interesting? Because, on page seven of that particular newspaper, there is an article about this man. He’s trying to collect 123,456 pieces of art over the course of a year. What an interesting person. The text of the article goes like this:

Art of displaying numbers

A STRATHMORE man has given painting by numbers a whole new meaning.

Inspired by a Canadian man’s internet quest to exchange a red paper clip for a house, Adam Box hopes to collect more than 100,000 pieces of art.

On his daughter’s first birthday on April 13 this year, Mr Box began his unusual art project to collect numbered art.

Via the internet, the 21-year-old assigns interested artists a number, which they have to incorporate in their work of art.

After exactly 12 months entries will close and a film showing the artworks will be posted on the web.

Mr Box hopes to count up to 123,456 with the paintings.

“It came from crazy ideas I’d read about such as the red paper clip,” Mr Box said.

“I thought I’d like to do something for my daughter. It started the day she turned one and I’d like to see how high I can count. I wanted to do something that she can see and understand.”

The project has already attracted 340 submissions from as far as England, The Netherlands, and America.

Congratulations on the good PR! And now we also have a face going with the name :)

What a bloody cool idea! Came over here via Urban Scratchings http://urbanscratchings.blogspot.com/2008/05/prisoner-358.html.

I’ve only started drawing again after 25 years of not doing anything. I’ll have to think about it before I take a number :)

Something to say?
